In response to the needs of the communities affected by Typhoon Nina, Camalig Bank, Inc. and Camalig Bank Foundation organized a “Soup Kitchen Activity” last January 9 to 13, 2017 in five (5) municipalities of Catanduanes. This activity is in coordination with the Diocese of Virac as well as the Caritas Justice for Peace, Inc. represented both by Rev. Fr. Renato Dela Rosa.

For each municipality, there is one (1) identified barangay where the Soup Kitchen Activity will be held. These barangays were Brgy. Buyo of Virac, Catanduanes, Brgy. Obo of San Miguel Catanduanes, Brgy. Bagumbayan of Bato, Catanduanes, Brgy. Putsan/Danao of Baras, Catanduanes and Brgy. Mayngaway of San Andres, Catanduanes.

There were two hundred (200) servings of chicken soup or “lugaw” to be distributed in every beneficiary barangay, for a total of one thousand (1,000) servings enjoyed by children and the adults, as well. The chicken soup was also made possible through the donation of Jollibee Foundation of congee mix that served as seasonings for tasty flavor.

This 5-day soup kitchen activity is not just under the Community Outreach Program of Camalig Bank Foundation, but most importantly, it is also within the Disaster Preparedness and Risk Management Program (DPRMP), since it was mainly organized on the basis of CBF’s aim to improve activities on the delivery of disaster response and rehabilitation.

In addition, Camalig Bank, Inc. and the Country Bankers Life Insurance Corporation jointly donated an amount of Php 60,000.00 to the Diocese of Virac to augment the beneficiaries’ budget on their project of shelter assistance and kits to the victims of Typhoon Nina, especially to those whose houses were totally damaged by the typhoon.

Camalig Bank Foundation is looking forward to the possibility of organizing other soup kitchen activities in the province of Albay, specifically in its 1st and 3rd districts where Typhoon Nina had also caused heavy devastation.
